How do I measure a wheel bolt pattern?
A bolt pattern has two numbers: the lug count and the circle diameter that passes through the lug hole centers, such as 5x114.3 mm (5x4.5 inches). Count the lugs first, then measure the circle with the method for your lug count.
How do I measure a 5-lug bolt pattern?
Five lugs have no opposite pair, so use the center-to-edge method shown above. You can also measure center to center between two neighboring lug holes and multiply by 1.7013 to get the pattern diameter.
How do I measure a 4-lug, 6-lug or 8-lug bolt pattern?
Measure from the center of one lug hole straight across to the center of the opposite lug hole. That distance is the bolt pattern diameter.
How do I measure a trailer wheel bolt pattern?
Use the same methods as for car wheels. Common trailer patterns include 5x4.5 inches, 5x5 inches, 6x5.5 inches and 8x6.5 inches.
Is 5x4.5 the same as 5x114.3?
Yes. 4.5 inches multiplied by 25.4 equals 114.3 mm. In the same way, 4x100 means 4 lugs on a 100 mm circle.
Does the bolt pattern alone tell me if a wheel will fit?
No. Also check center bore, offset, lug seat type and thread size before buying wheels.
